We’re deeply troubled by images from the failed Ballard Raingardens project. Please note the large bump outs and tall, unattractive signage. The Barton CSO project design offered to eliminate some of the signage; but we were still concerned about having large bump outs which impact parking and ability for vehicles to move unimpeded down the street.
Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the West Seattle rain gardens website. We started this site when King County planned to construct "biorentention swales" in our neighborhoods. Bioswales are NOT rain gardens. We hope you’ll carefully review the content of the site to learn from our experience, especially if a similar project is proposed for your community. We support green infrastructure, but we advocate for safe options to address Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs).-

Can you tell me where in Ballard these pictures were taken? I’d like to drive by there to see what it looks like now. Thanks!
The Ballard Raingardens were located in the area of NW 77th and 29th Avenue NW. Please note that the City of Seattle removed or filled in these failed raingardens at a cost of $500,000, so thankfully they will look different now.
